Description
COLT MOD. 1911A1 S/A SERVICE PISTOL: 45 ACP cal; 7 rnd. mag.; 125m/m barrel with exc. bore & crisp rifling; grey patina to majority of metalwork with extensive pitting to slide, some lighter pitting to frame; lhs of slide marked with patents, rampant horse trademark & HARTFORD address; rhs of frame marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY M1911A1 U.S. ARMY; RS inspection mark*; slide retracts smoothly but intermittently holds, integral sear on slide is worn; strong hammer spring & sear; matching brown bakelite grips with sharply defined chequering, some handling marks; overall in g. wo & p. cond. #742108 L/R Mfg. 1941. The RS Inspection mark is for Colonel Robert Sears. Col. Sears was the the Army Inspector of Ordnance at the Hartford Ordnance District office from August 3rd 1937 - June 30th, 1941. His inspection mark is seen on pistols in the 723000-750500 range.
